Action pour la Protection de l‟Environnement et la Promotion des Filières Agricoles «APEFA», is a non-government Organization founded by people concerned with environment degradation, climate change, smart agriculture, and food security in Rwanda. APEFA was granted legal by Ministerial Order No. 99/11 of 31 July 2008 published in the Official Journal No. 38 of 22 September 2014.

Vision

At Rwanda where nature and human endeavor thrive in harmony, where every community is a beacon of sustainable practices, and where indigenous wisdom seamlessly merges with future promise.

Mission

To champion community-driven solutions that tackle deforestation, land degradation, and unsustainable farming practices. It empowers local communities particularly smallholder farmers, women, and youth through a blend of indigenous wisdom and modern approaches.

Approach

Across all programs, we prioritize community-driven solutions, blending traditional knowledge with modern practices. We focus on empowering women and youth, ensuring our interventions are inclusive and transformative.

APEFA works with local communities on the grassroots

Areas of intervention

• Soil conservation and landscape restoration;

• Integrated water management

• Sustainable agriculture;

• Climate change adaptation &mitigation;

The strategy is to empower and facilitate communities through associations/cooperatives, in order to reduce human pressure on forests and other natural resources through livelihood improvement activities.

1.    Promoting public awareness;

2.    Contribution to the environmental balance and food security at the community level;

3.    Conservation of Natural resources at community level (Forests, soil conservation)

4.    The development of the agricultural sector through the use of quality seed and the priority use of organic fertilizers (manure compost promotion).

APEFA implements integrated projects across all provinces of Rwanda focused on sustainable land management, water resource management, sustainable agriculture and capacity building.
