On 22 th   February 2020 at Nyarutarama Sports Trust club held a meeting, bringing together FAO, APEFA, and Energy 4 Impact.

Energy 4 Impact is a non-profit international organization working with local businesses to extend access to energy in Africa, impacting the quality of life for millions of people. Growing sustainable clean energy markets improves livelihoods and accelerates economic growth.

Mr. BIZIMA Joseph the representative of FAO, Rwanda chaired the meeting and proceeded to the introduction of meeting and the objective of the meeting as well;

The objective of the meeting was to see together possible windows of collaboration between APEFA and Energy 4 Impact mostly in the area of small scale irrigation aiming to improve social economic wellbeing of Rwandan.

In his speech the Executive Director of APEFA Mr.NZAPONIMPA Oscar thanked the participants for this important meeting and revealed that APEFA is opened for partnership with any organization that is in line with its vision, area of intervention as well as showing the willingness and value addition to current innovative initiatives.   

He took this opportunity to thank FAO for being good partner and promised to continue working together, to promote the intervention area aiming to achieve food security among other; he also requested FAO to link APEFA with other potential partners to enable the organization to achieve it mission .

The Technical advisor of APEFA took participants through APEFA background, vision and achievements and following area of Soil conservation and landscape restoration; Integrated water management Sustainable agriculture; Climate change adaptation &mitigation; Green mining promotion, Monitoring and tractability of mineralsand as well as some key success stories;

She also informed the participants in the meeting that APEFA since it existence in 2007, has extended partnership with: Ministry of Environment (MoE); Rwanda Forestry Authority (RFA) Rwanda Water Resources Board (RWB); Rwanda Mining, Petroleum and Gas Board (RMPGB), Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA), Ministry of Agriculture and its agencies (RAB, NAEB); Rwanda Land use Management Authority (RLUMA) Local Administration and communities, Districts;International NGOs such as IFDC, ARCOS, World Vision and IUCN .

In his speech the Technical Project Manager, of Energy 4 Impact, Mr. NTIVUNWA DIVIN    thanked APEFA for its commitment to support farmers to improve their livelihood, he therefore promised to work with APEFA in forthcoming endeavours. Furthermore he emphasised on the main mission of Energy 4 Impact which is to link farmers with potential financial Institutions and capacity empowerment as well. 

The outcome of this meeting:

The meeting recommended that Energy 4 Impact to give the feedback on the  Signing of open memorandum of understanding between the two parties for future collaboration in the field of small scale irrigation , which was sent to them long time ago

Conduct a field visit in the near future to the project Knowing water better: Towards fairer and more sustainable access to natural resources for greater food security (KnoWat)” being implemented by APEFA in partnership with Food and Agriculture organization.

The representative of FAO concluded the meeting by thanking participants in the meeting and recommended the to continuation of the partnership process and promises the support in the due course whenever deemed necessary.
