In order to help vegetable farmers in the Yanze to set up an irrigation water users’ association, for better management of irrigation water, APEFA has organized a two days training on Governance, Water distribution, Institutional set up registration of water permit and Conflict Resolution for YAHOPROC Cooperative and Yanze Irrigation Water Users’ Association leaders.

The training was held on 31st March and 03rd April 2021, at in the conference room of Ngoma Sector, Rulindo District.

The main objective of this training was to enhance capacity of Irrigation Water Users‘ Association in governance of their organizations for the proper management of  the irrigation scheme, while the specific objectives were:

  • Acquire skills on operation and management of Irrigation Water Users’ Association;
  • Define ways in solving conflicts and different ways on how to deal with a conflict;
  • Have the global picture of the nature of the conflict and their degree of gravity in the organisation;
  • Apply for a water use permit

The Executive Secretary of Ngoma Sector, Mrs. NYINAWUMUNTU Domitille, appreciated the cooperation between APEFA and Ngoma Sector, which is reflected in the capacity building of YAHOPROC Cooperative, and especially for organizing this important training.

She invited the participants to take an active part in its progress. She also reminded that the training should make the participants change, and thus change with their organization’s members they represent.

For his part, Mr. Eric TWAGIRAYEZU, the APEFA representative, also thanked the participants for their enthusiastic participation and urged them to follow the training closely, learn lessons from them that will help them in their development.

This training was aimed at empowering the leaders of YAHOPROC cooperative and Yanze Water Users’ Association in the areas of governance, water management and conflict resolution.

The training was well conducted; cooperative and Yanze Water Users’ Association are committed to fulfilling all the requirements for the organization to carry out its responsibilities and to resolving positively disputes that are largely based on the poor management of irrigation water.

Leaders are also committed to changing their attitudes so that they can also change the behavior of organization’s members in general.
