As part of the “Five Fruit Trees per Household” program under Rwanda’s PSTA5, APEFA, in partnership with Centre d’études et de Coopération Internationale (CECI), held a two-day training from June 25–26, 2025, at Ayabaraya Technical Secondary School.

The training targeted 51 students from the Environmental Club and 4 mentors, aiming to address low tree survival rates. This training followed a successful Umuganda activity in November 2024, during which over 1,000 fruit trees were planted at the school.

The training focused on building skills in tree nursery and orchard management, strengthening leadership and teamwork, improving financial literacy, and promoting environmental stewardship. Key outcomes included practical knowledge in seedling care, the launch of a student savings scheme, and a clear action plan for maintaining the school’s fruit farm.

Participants committed to responsibilities such as peer environmental education, tree care, waste management, soil erosion control, and the development of an annual environmental plan, with strong backing from the school leadership.
