Today, on 30 November 2025, Action pour la Protection de l’Environnement et la Promotion des Filières Agricoles (APEFA) officially launched the project “Sustainable Farming Practices to Build Climate Resilience for Vulnerable Households in Bugesera District” during a stakeholder meeting held at Palast Rock Nyamata.
The launch event brought together representatives from government institutions, development partners, district and sector authorities, cooperatives, and beneficiary communities. The project aims to strengthen climate resilience, promote sustainable agriculture, and improve livelihoods for vulnerable households in Mareba and Ngeruka Sectors, specifically in Ngeruka, Gihembe, and Bishenyi Cells.

Opening the event, Mr. Protais Habanabakize, APEFA Program Development Director, highlighted APEFA’s long-standing presence in Bugesera District and emphasized the project’s inclusive and community-driven approach. This initiative marks APEFA’s fifth development project in the district, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable rural development.

The project was presented by Ms. Diane Tuyisenge, Project Coordinator, who outlined key interventions including solar-powered irrigation systems, women-led poly-house farming, capacity building, and agroforestry practices. These activities are designed to enhance agricultural productivity, strengthen climate resilience, and contribute to national development priorities.

Mr. Rongin Ntazinda, Director of Agriculture and Natural Resources Unit in Bugesera District, underscored the importance of women’s participation in climate action and encouraged strong community engagement throughout implementation.
The official launch marked the beginning of project activities, setting a strong foundation for collaborative efforts to build climate-resilient and sustainable farming systems in Bugesera District.
