The 17th Rwanda National Agriculture Show, held from July 31st to August 9th, 2024, at the Mulindi showground in Kigali, was a vibrant showcase of agricultural innovation organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI) under the theme “Building Resilient and Sustainable Food Systems,” the event brought together over 470 exhibitors presenting advancements in agriculture. Among them, Action pour la Protection de l’Environnement et la Promotion des Filières Agricoles (APEFA), emerged as a standout participant with its groundbreaking approach to climate-smart agriculture.
APEFA’s exhibition captivated attendees with its integration of advanced irrigation systems and fish farming techniques. This innovative combination not only enhances agricultural productivity but also supports climate change adaptation and environmental preservation.

Protais Habanabakize, APEFA’s Programs Director, highlighted the event’s significance, stating that it offered crucial insights into combining small-scale irrigation with fish farming. This technique improves water use efficiency and enriches plant nutrition while minimizing environmental impact.
Executive Director Oscar Nzabonimpa emphasized the show’s value in fostering networking opportunities, connecting APEFA with experts and innovators, and exploring potential partnerships and investment avenues for advancing combined irrigation and aquaculture.
The positive response from visitors underscored the technique’s broad appeal. Butera Emmanuel from CO/RYAF-KWP in Kayonza praised the system for its efficient water use and the dual income streams it provides.
Niyibigira Alain Eugene of M&E/RARICO in Kigali expressed a strong interest in collaborating with APEFA, recognizing the potential benefits of their aquaculture focus.
