Based on assessment done in Gakenke Ditrict on clean water access, the results shown that 2 Sectors (Minazi and Mataba), present big challenge to access clean water for the domestic activities. Therefore, under a MoU of Gakenke District with Action pour la Protection de l’Environnement et la Promotion des Filières Agricoles “APEFA”, especially on Hygiene and sanitation responsibilities, APEFA Supported this District for rehabilitating Minazi sector community clean water supply line based on electric water pumping system located in Kivuba source in Munyana cell with its fetching points and with this Mou under its responsibilities also APEFA provided supported for Gakenke district for construction of two houses for two families victim of natural disaster occurred in Muhondo and Kamubuga Sectors this year of 2022.
Key Achievements
• One water pump has been renewed and installed to increase the discharge of water.
• Two cells presenting 7 kilometers water supply main line destroyed by inappropriate maintenance; a they are now rehabilitated and operating by supplying water to the community as per needed .
• 5 public fetching points used by 6 Villages (Kanka, Kivuba, Nyabitare, Kigeyo, Gahombo and Gahunda) of two cells in Minazi Sectors, 1 twelve years basic education school with 988 students, 1 primary school with 368 students, 1 Early Childhood Development and Family Center of 117 children, 1 catholic parish, sector office and a health center are now receiving clean water.
Generally, the rehabilitation of Minazi water supply system is well implemented and now supplying clean water among community of Munyana and Gasiho cells in Minazi sector.
