Action pour la Protection de l’Environnement et la Promotion des Filieres Agricoles (APEFA) held a training on environment protection and community based climate change adaptation in Kamonyi District.
The two-days training that started on December 22, 2021, brought together local authorities including the District Vice Mayor in charge of Economic Affairs Uzziel Niyongira who officiated the training, the Cells’ SEDOs and the Sector Executive Secretaries among other leaders.
The training was organized by APEFA in partnership with Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) in line with Green Amayaga project initiated by REMA with an aim to see Amayaga region become green again.
The project is implemented in sectors of four Districts of the Southern Province extending over Amayaga region. The districts are Nyanza, Gisagara, Ruhango and Kamonyi.
The participants were taken through the background, the current state of #GreenAmayaga project on for which beneficiaries APEFA does community mobilization and capacity building.
They also talked about and made commitments to have a contribution to making Green Amayaga project a success and sustain activities carried out throughout the project.
They were also tipped on climate change adaptation as action to reduce the vulnerability to actual expected changes in climate and mitigation which was explained as actions to reduce the sources or increase the sinks of greenhouse gases.
